Avery Comarow is Health Rankings Editor of U.S. News & World Report, where he has reported and edited since 1986. Clinical medicine, especially quality assessment, has long been a special interest. He directed the launches of Best Hospitals in 1990, Best Children’s Hospitals in 2007, Best Nursing Homes in 2009 and Best Regional Hospitals in 2011. Comarow also worked with NCQA on rankings of group health plans in the 1990s and from 2005-2009. Before joining U.S. News he was an editor at Science 86, Washington Correspondent for Consumer Reports, Washington Editor for Money magazine and a newspaper reporter.
